How Have You Changed Since 9/11?

In "Common Sense" Paine says that things will never be the same after April 19, 1775 (The Battle of Lexington/Concord). In other words, the world cannot return to a pre-Lexington/Concord period. This sounds familiar to me. Do you think that the world changed irrevocably after 9/11?

Another question: Paine also says that there is a time when debate must cease and fighting must begin. Do you agree with Paine? Do you think that we, as Americans, are more prone to war than we are to peace? Do we prefer guns to dialogue?

I think the world has changed. The first thing that I saw after the planes hitting the towers on the news was pictures of people all over the world sympathizing for the U.S. I felt this was a dramatic change from the most powerful country in the world. Even though this was a big blow to the U.S., this sort of stuff happens all over the world. I found it odd to see them sympathizing for us when there is a lot of need all over the world.

I also believe that our country has changed after this situation. It seemed that everyone was very scared after 9/11. It seemed people were looking over their shoulder because they were afraid of something horrible was going to happen. With our country being so strong, we began blaming others for this. My high school is right next to the MN Islam center. I can not tell you how many times I heard people say comments about "them". It was as if the children that attended the school were going to bomb our school. It was ridiculous that people in the "strongest" country could go so low to blame people because of their skin color. Our country has changed. Some good and some bad. Everyone raised their flags the day after and became more united. I saw our country come together and try and be strong. There was a lot of good that came out of 9/11 and a lot of bad. What I think it was the most was a slap in the face. A slap in the face to wake up and see what kind of world we are living in.
